I've been cosplaying for about five years now, it's been an amazing journey of growth and artistic expression the whole way! Back when I started I ordered a couple of outfits to see if I liked it, and now I'm making entire outfits by hand!
Tell us about your name Byndogehk. What's the story behind it?
So here is where my horrible nerdiness shows. In Final Fantasy X, there is a language of the Al Bhed that some of the characters speak in, and in this tongue "Byndo Gehk' actually means 'Party King' which is a nickname my friends had given me! Bonus round, my friends now also call me 'Byndo Rekt' when I party at cons.
What kind of cosplayer do you consider yourself?
Gender bends, that is taking a traditionally male character and creating a female version of it (or vice versa), have been something I adore to create. It allows for expression of my artistic abilities while letting me express my great love of a character, but putting an original spin on it! Same with gijinkas, something that is non-human to be created into a human version! So I'd say I am a very creative and boundless cosplayer.
Cosplay or Crossplay or both?
I've always wanted to try crossplay! Just another makeup and cosmetic challenge!
Is cosplay a hobby for you or could you see yourself doing it 10 years from now?
In ten years I'd like to take a small Byndo baby to a convention dressed as whatever he or she was interested in at the time! Cosplay started as a hobby and remains a strong passion of mine, adoring the characters and the stories behind them, and creating something from fantasy and making it real life is just magical to me so I'd like to do it as long as I can.
Do you have a current cosplay fav?
CINDY FROM FINAL FANASY XV, SHE IS A RAY OF SUNSHINE!
What is a cosplay pet peeve of yours?
Not using a cosplay wig, minus if the character's hair is actually realistic normal hair. I learned this.. SO FAST.
What was your first Con?
Otakon! It was like going to Disney world.
What is your next Con?
Katsucon in MD!
What is Cosplay to you?
Cosplay is expression, love art, creation, and friendship. I've met the best people and closest friends though cosplay that I think I'll take with me through the rest of my life.
What got you into cosplay?
When you have a bunch of nerd friends, they're going to take you to a con eventually. At my first convention, Otakon, I was in AWE of cosplayers. I was immediately inspired to try it out!
What do you think of what we are doing here at Mainframe? - taking a street-wear lifestyle approach to gaming apparel?
I THINK IT'S GREAT! Definitely my kind of aesthetic, unique designs while repping my gaming trash persona.
